The goals of this Qur’an translation are as follows:
Translate the unpunctuated, rhymed prose of the Arabic Qur'an into clear, unrhymed, readable, modern English prose, with standard English sentence structure and length, grammar, punctuation, and style. When the Arabic can be understood more than one way, this has been footnoted.
Translate the meaning of the original Arabic text as accurately as possible.
Be as specific as the original Arabic is.
Footnote points of commonality or similarity in themes, words, or stories in the Qur’an and the Bible.
Show changes in the rhyme scheme.
-Distinctions between the singular, dual, and plural, and between the masculine and feminine in pronouns for “you” and “they” in Arabic.
-Use of pronouns and nouns as the Arabic uses them (no more or less specific than the original).
-Clarify the referent of a pronoun where unclear in English via footnotes (no more or less specific than the original).
-Lower case pronouns for God, since Arabic has no capital letters.
